About Us

Our Ethos and Distinctive Christian Character

As a Church of England academy we celebrate our Christian ethos, whilst also welcoming families of other faiths and none.

Our School Environment

As you walk around our school you will see our Christian ethos reflected in lots of places. The entrance area always has a reflective display.  This might be reflecting the time of year, or a Christian value that we are thinking about. In the hall you will see banners made by the children with the support of Mrs Arrowsmith, one of our volunteers, which celebrate Christian values. In each classroom you will see a reflective area, which might include a cross, prayers written by children or a Bible.

Our Curriculum

As a Christian school Religious Education is an important part of the curriculum and we strive for the highest standards in this. We follow the Diocese of York syllabus, as we learn about the Christianity and other world faiths. However, our faith permeates all areas of the curriculum as we learn about the world around us. Our curriculum information demonstrates how we do this.

Living Out Our Faith

Our Christian faith encourages us all to be the best we can and within the school we encourage, and sometimes challenge, the children to achieve the best and not settle for mediocrity. Our Friday assembly is a time of sharing work and achievements – it is the part of the week when the children are publicly praised, not necessarily for being the best but for doing the best they are able, and we invite parents of ‘Stars of the Week’ to join us.

As a school community we aim to imitate the life of Jesus in our relationships with each other and the wider world. We foster a family atmosphere where all people are respected and each child knows that they are important and worthwhile members of the school and wider society. Consideration for others is a priority of our school.

Part of the Christian tradition is about being a neighbour and we live this out by playing our part within the community. This can be seen in the way we have supported local, national and international charities. This year our chosen charity is ‘WaterAid’ and we are holding various fundraising activities to support this worthwhile cause. Each week we invite members of the community to join us for lunch, including older people, parents and grandparents.
